Praying for Sunshine

Shirt Gap // Crop Sweater Gap // Denim Target now $14 // Booties Nine West // Bag H&M (literally just sold out) similar here // Necklace Kute 'N Klever c/o // Lips MAC Snob //

I am dying for some SUNSHINE! Remember, I live in Buffalo (home of blizzards, and now, a vortex?!) You know you live in Buffalo when... 28 degrees feels like a warm front!! So, when I saw this sweater, I had to have it in yellow.

Since I try avoiding all things that make my 5'2" self shorter, you would have never seen me sport a crop top. Hello, I live in heels--not because I like the air up here but because I'm trying to appear eye level {at least to my husband who calls 6'4" home}. When these sweaters were an additional 50% off, I decided to try it on and found it was a great layering tool. You can actually see the shirt underneath it! Who knew?!

Moral of my story--try not to create a "You would have to kill me to wear that" list. Try something knew (especially if it's on sale).

Thanks for stopping reading. Feel free to leave suggestions on recommendations you would like to see on Polished.

My Go-To Color

You may notice all of my posts come from inspiration (people-mostly) and, naturally... a story. To spare you from a long boring one, I will share my inspiration for this post was my favorite go-to color, that stands strong in all seasons, fabrics, colors, and accessories--yes, ladies, HOT PINK.

Polka Dot Blouse here for $10 // Sweater H&M for $5 // Purse here (a steal at $15) // Denim here // Earring Target on sale for $10 // Boots from Maurices-old similar here //

PINK-my go to color. Why? For obvious reasons, it's eye catching and fun, since it has this girly flare, but it can sexy and timeless too. So, let's talk about colors....

We must admit that each season holds a palette of colors, trendy colors. How can you tell? Try shopping--look at the mannequins in the store windows, you will see they all have something in common, and it's typically their color. Paying attention to these details helps your wardrobe stay trendy.

Now, there are only SO many colors in the rainbow. Changing the shade or tone of each color is key. Green, for example, is always in fashion. Right now, in January, Emerald Green is stunning. But, as the snow melts and flowers blossom, you will see a shift from Emerald to Mint. Like all rules, there are exceptions. Classic black and white, neon colors, and neutrals always have the go ahead! It's hard to think of a color I would absolutely steer clear of {if it was the right look, you can style anything}

I am more cautious about fabrics than colors, if I score a coral wool sweater that I love, it's clearly made for a winter/fall look. When styled, I will be sure to add some heavy colors and throw on a pair of boots--voila! I'm Polished for winter :)

Thanks for stopping by and reading!! Let me know what you think!

A Winter Floral

Top Kardashian Kollection --SALE // Skirt Here--for $7--and this one is leather // Floral Scarf here for $13 // Polka Dot Tights in Pink and Silver // Spiked Heals here // Bracelet NY&Co // Earrings Target (a steal at $8) // Lips Maybelline Brazen Berry Vivid //

Yes, floral print is still trendy in the winter! Who knew the flowers still bloomed through all of this snow? Remember, style is in the details. So, here's how I made it work:
  • Color Choice-When choosing a winter floral there are two elements to consider: fabric and color. Although this scarf is a light fabric, it has a black background filled with rich colors, these are neons, not pastelles.
    • Not to mention the color of the season, pink Radiant Orchard!? Keep your eyes peeled, you will see it everywhere!
  • Fabrics-Mixing a floral with a few heavier fabrics (leather and wool) help make the overall look winter appropriate. I'm loving this leather shirt from the Kardashian Kollection. Although you can't see it here, it is a high-low shirt, so it looks great tucked in or loose with some skinnies.  {and it's on sale, duh!}
  • Style/Fit-By wrapping this scarf 3 times it appears full and warm. In warmer months, I may have left it open to have more of a "flowy" look.
